FAQs

We understand that students and parents may have questions regarding our online high school courses. To address that, we have included some of the most common questions we have encountered over the years. If you have a query that isn’t listed below, please feel free to contact us here.

How exactly does your program work?

To begin the process, you will first need to speak with one of our Admissions Specialists over the phone. At this stage, they will conduct a brief interview to learn more about the prospective new student, as well as explain our virtual learning programs and the numerous advantages of online high school courses.

During this interview, the Admissions Specialist will also create an application for the student. Once the application is approved, the Admissions Specialist will explain the different tuition options available, and then collect the tuition over the phone by credit card. The student will then receive an email with their username and password, along with instructions on how to begin their program.

Is there a comprehensive program exam?

As a private online homeschool, we are not required to administer the public-school state tests. This allows us to teach a curriculum that is appropriate for each grade level, without the primary focus on heavily weighted tests. However, we do require that each student complete the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment test, which enables us to track the student’s progress and properly advance them to the next grade level.

How often should I submit my coursework?

You can submit your coursework at your own pace. That is one of the key advantages of online high school courses. Each student has up to 10 months to complete a full grade level. However, a student may choose to accelerate and complete their coursework in a shorter period of time. Therefore, the more work you do, the faster you will advance to the next grade level.

Also, students under the compulsory attendance age (set by each state) must check if there are any local requirements. The minimum enrollment period for a full-time student to complete all courses and be promoted to the next grade level is sixteen (16) weeks. The minimum age to earn a high school diploma is 15 years.

What type of curriculum does your school use?

We have developed most of our own curriculum based on the standards set by the State of Florida, to meet or exceed the national criteria. Certified teachers in every subject area were part of this process and contributed to this development. All of our lessons are available online 24/7 and can be accessed by our students anytime, anywhere.

Will others automatically know that this is a distance education school?

Your high school diploma does not explicitly state that The Ogburn Online School is a distance education institution. However, online high school courses (the modern version of distance education using the internet) are now becoming increasingly popular across America. It is widely estimated that almost every high school student takes at least one online course in addition to their regular school courses.

Moreover, The Ogburn School is both regionally and nationally accredited in the United States. Therefore, your diploma will be treated on par with diplomas earned by attending regular, traditional schools. For more information on our accreditations, you can click here.

If I return to a traditional classroom in a local high school, will I be able to transfer these courses?

The Ogburn School is both a regionally and nationally accredited online homeschool in the United States, and is accredited by –

  • The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI)
  • Cognia (formerly AdvancED)
  • Accreditation International (Ai)
  • The Association of Independent Schools of Florida (AISF)
  • The National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA)
  • The North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI)
  • The Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS)
  • The Ogburn Online School is also NCAA approved (National Collegiate Athletic Association)

We have developed most of our own curriculum based on the standards set by the State of Florida, to meet or exceed the national criteria. This makes it easier for public and private institutions to determine which courses will transfer. Many of our students have successfully returned to traditional schooling without any issues. Please remember that each school has its own policies regarding course transfer.

Is The Ogburn Online School program a GED program?

No. The GED is earned by taking a series of tests administered by an authorized testing agent. Our diploma is an accredited, credit-based diploma granted by a private school that is recognized and accepted by colleges and universities nationwide.

How long does it take to complete the program?

The time taken by you to complete the program would depend on the number of courses you’ve already completed elsewhere, and how quickly you complete each of our online high school courses. Our online program is completely self-paced, which means you can proceed at your own convenience.

How do I know which courses can be transferred?

When your transcript is submitted to us, we carefully evaluate which courses can be transferred into your program. It is our school’s policy to transfer courses that correspond in name, number, and/or description, if the transcript is submitted to us on a school letterhead and is verifiable by our director.

When do I receive my diploma?

Your high school diploma is sent to you as soon as you complete the course requirements and pay your tuition in full.

Can I go to college with your diploma?

Yes. Many of our students have continued to pursue post-secondary education. Our diploma is an accredited, credit-based diploma granted by a private school that is recognized and accepted by colleges and universities nationwide. However, please remember that you must pass entrance / placement exams at most colleges.

Can I join the military?

Please note that each branch of the military has its own specific set of requirements. You must make a certain score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test and meet other physical and/or age requirements. You may also need to complete a semester of college or technical school. Check with your local recruiter.
