Gingerbread and Sweet Treats

I love the month of December, it's full of fun activities, and holidays but one of my favorite parts about December is all of the sweet treats. From gingerbread to cookies, there are so many delicious treats you can bake. Your preschoolers will love some of the fun activities we have with this theme.

Gingerbread

Gingerbread is a fun aspect of the holiday season with cookies, house, and entertaining stories. Since gingerbread is a pretty universal theme throughout the world, it is a great theme to use, especially if you have students who don't celebrate Christmas.Some of my most favorite books are all about gingerbread!

Candy Canes

Candy canes are a staple during the Christmas season. There are a ton of crafts, science experiments and activities that can be done with candy canes. Your students will be learning and having fun all at once!

Santa and His Helpers

Santa and his helpers are a big part of the month of December and our young preschoolers love learning all about him and his helpers! From his sled to his reindeer, we can provide our preschoolers with a ton of fun activities to learn more about Santa.

Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Elves

What is Christmas without Santa's elves? After all, they are Santa's biggest helpers. Do your students love sharing stories about Elf on the Shelf, then they will love learning all about elves!

Reindeer

Reindeer is another theme to introduce during the holiday season while incorporating a bit of non-fiction. Not to mention, reindeers have a pretty important job in helping Santa get around.

Movies and Popcorn

Do your students love going to the movies or having their own movie nights with their families at home? This theme dives into favorite movies, favorite foods to eat at the movies and even explores learning more about actors and actresses. Your students will love learning about the movies through entertaining books.

New Years Eve

New Years is another great holiday to learn about during the month of December.Preschoolers love festivities however most preschoolers won’t make it to midnight but that doesn't mean they can'tcelebrate with some funcrafts andactivities.

Cookies

National Cookie Day is December 4th can you think of a better time to enjoy your favorite cookie? Your preschoolers can celebrate this holiday by baking their own cookies or setting up a baking center in dramatic play.

Hanukkah

Hannukuah is another very important holiday that is celebrated starting in November lasting eight days. Explore and learn about this holiday through fun books, and activities.

Thank a Soldier

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is December 7th, and it is a day to honor all of those who lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor. While this concept is a little advanced for our preschoolers, we can use this opportunity to talk about the importance of soldiers and thank them for their service.

Winter Solstice

The winter solstice is on December 21st, and it marks the longest and shorted day of the year and the official beginning of winter. Use this day to read fun stories about winter and explain exciting science topics to your young learners.

Flashlights

Preschoolers are fascinated with flashlights. There are so many great concepts you can teach by using flashlights. Introduce the concepts of shadows and even use this time to explain why it's essential to have a flashlight close by during the winter month

Christmas

Christmas is a holiday filled with so much joy and a ton of great activities. Use this time to talk about Christmas around the world and explore how other countries celebrate this favorite holiday. Check out all of your fun activities.

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a celebration that begins on December 26th lasting until January 1st. This holiday Kwanzaa is a celebration of community, family, and culture.Use this opportunity for your students to explore other traditions with your students.

Cards: Card Playing Day

Many of our students have traditions during the holidays and some of which are family card games. We also celebrate National Card Playing Day on December 28th, how fun! Bingo

Bingo is a classic game that we can play in all different stages of life, and not to mention it's really fun. Using bingo also helps young preschoolers learn a variety of new skills and it enhances rule following, team work, anddecision making skills.Bingo has so manygreat benefits!

Write a Friend

Did you know that December is National Write a Friend month? What a perfect time to help your students write a note to a friend or family member. You can even use this time to decorate a Christmas card to send!

Hand-washing

National Hand-washing Awareness is celebrated throughout the month of December. I can't think of a better time to talk with preschoolers about the importance of washing our hands to prevent us from getting sick. There are so many great activities out there that give students a hands-on understanding of germs!
