Slow Cooker Apple Pie Caramel Dip

With just 4 simple ingredients you can whip up this recipe in no time flat. Full of classic fall flavors it tastes like an apple pie with caramel drizzled all over it. While this recipe is not sugar-free it is low-fatand that counts for something right?

Granny Smith apples are my favorite apple variety when I make homemade apple pie. They offer the right combination of tart and sweet and hold their shape when cooking and don’t get mushy. But of course feel free to useanother apple variety if you cannot find Granny Smith’s,

Other apple varieties that would work in this recipe:

  • Braeburn Apples
  • Cortland Apples
  • Crispin Apples
  • Gala Apples
  • Golden Delicious Apples
  • Honeycrisp Apples
  • Jonagold Apples
  • Jonathan Apples
  • Melrose Apples
  • Northern Spy Apples
  • Pink Lady Apples
  • Rome Beauty Apples
  • Winesap Apples

Once you have your apples picked out the rest of the ingredients are simple…some cinnamon and allspice (you could also use apple pie spice instead) and a container of fat-freecaramel dip (I used Marzetti Fat-FreeCaramel Dip).

Toss all of that together in a 3-quart slow cooker and let it cook away for 4 hours or so on LOW until the apples are tender.

I served the slow cooker apple pie caramel dip with some cinnamon pita chips. But you could also use bagel chips, graham crackers, or whatever sturdy dipper you want! I even liked Wheat Thins for that salty/sweet flavor combination…so good!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use fat free caramel dip?

No, you do not need to use fat free caramel dip in this recipe. Of course, if you use a full fat or low-fat caramel dip then the nutritional information will be different.

Can I use caramel sauce instead of caramel dip?

For best results be sure to use a tub of caramel dip and not a jar of caramel sauce. The difference between caramel dip and sauce is that the dip is a thicker consistency and caramel sauce is a much thinner consistency. Caramel dip will create a much thicker finished apple pie dip which will hold better to whatever you are dipping into the dip. Caramel sauce will just drip off.

Now that you have your ingredients, let's make caramel apples. First, rinse and dry the apples. Apples have a waxy coating that will prevent the caramel from sticking, so it's important to wash and dry it off. Make sure the apples are cold, which helps prevent the caramel from slipping off.

Can caramel apples sit out overnight? ›

If you can't refrigerate your caramel apples within two hours, it's better to throw them out than risk getting sick from eating them. Plus, storing caramel apples in the refrigerator has another benefit: The interior stays fresh-tasting and crisp while remaining soft and gooey on the outside.

Can you leave caramel apple pie out overnight? ›

Why isn't my caramel sticking to my apple slices? ›

Slice your apples into 1 inch sized slices and toss in some lemon juice. Pat them dry with a paper towel and let them rest on the paper towels while you prepare the caramel dip. Wet apples will cause the dip to slide right off and not stick, so you want them as dry as you can get them.
